Samuel Said:

What are the requirements to become a certified dietition and personal trainer?

We Answered:

GAWD you sound like me 15 years ago!
OK, let's start with disspelling a common misconception. The term "dietitian" is the one that has legal protection. What that means is in order to call oneself a dietitian one must graduate from an approved dietetics program and pass the national registry exam. In order to call oneself a "nutritionist" all one has to do is hang up a shingle and call yourself a nutritionist. I know, I know its jacked up. Which is why I don't worry about people calling me a nutritionist instead of a dietitian b/c popular thought is that "nutritionists" are the ones who know about "health", fitness, weight loss, etc., while dietitians are the ladies in the hair nets in hospital cafeterias. In reality we can do both.

As far as classes go, some standard requirments are chemistry ( a lot of chemistry, my minor is actually in chemistry), anatomy, physiology, microbiology, math all the way through statistics. It's not as easy as it sounds but it is a fun and rewarding career.

If you have any questions or would like a more in depth answer hit me back and I'll send my info so you can get in touch w/me so we can talk more.

Good Luck
