AHRMM Participates in CHeS Supporting
Standards
CHICAGO (November 12, 2001) - The Association for Healthcare Resource
& Materials Management (AHRMM), of the American Hospital
Association, today announced its new relationship with the
Coalition for Healthcare eStandards (CHeS) to promote
innovative standards for Internet business. CHeS works with
standards' organizations on the establishment of criteria
allowing for electronic transmission and acceptance of
providers, distributors, manufacturers and group purchasing
organizations. Standards are the way that messages are
formatted so that both the sender and the receiver can build
software to efficiently use the electronic transmission. The
adoption of these electronic communications standards helps
reduce supply chain costs and waste.
Through this new relationship, AHRMM will
occupy an ad hoc, non-voting board seat with CheS. The
materials management organization will continue to work with
CHeS towards an end goal of advancing standards within Internet
eCommerce and towards incorporation of those standards into
product manufacture and widespread health care utilization.
"AHRMM firmly supports the use of
automated electronic processing of business information and
believes that standards are necessary to lend order to a
potentially chaotic environment," said Al Cook,
president-elect of AHRMM. "CheS' actions are
nonproprietary and the results of their efforts will be public
domain for all participants in the health care supply
chain."
Showing solidarity in the field, CHeS lists
core members as Consorta, MedCenterDirect, Medibuy, Neorforma,
Novation, Premier, HealthNexis and the Global Health Exchange.
"Many of the AHRMM members belong to
one or more of these groups so this new relationship comes
easily," says Cook. "The association between CHeS and
AHRMM will help to develop standards that work and educate the
membership regarding these standards. The ultimate test will be
when it is time to apply these standards in supply chain
management, specific to health care."
More information will be forthcoming as the
CHeS work teams, currently four, progress towards acceptance of
these standards. For more information, visit the CHeS site at
www.chestandards.org.
The Association for Healthcare Resource
& Materials Management (AHRMM) is the leading national
association for executives in the healthcare resource and
materials management profession. A personal membership group of
the American Hospital Association, the Association serves more
than 2,900 active members. Founded in 1962, AHRMM prepares its
members to contribute to the field and advance the profession
through networking, education, recognition, and advocacy.
