What To Do If Your Child Has Colic
We Answered:
i hope not!! my son (one and only) had it BAD, and i am so nervous to ever have another because it was very hard on me. but i always think if you have a fussy one first that if you get a non colic the second time you will appreciate it so much more. and if the second has colic too, then at leats we will have been through it already, know how to deal, and know that it does get better.Laura Said:
Do you have a colic baby?We Answered:
My son is colicky too. It started at exactly 3 weeks and now he is 12 weeks and it is pretty much gone. You are doing all the right things. You just have to accept that he's going to cry for hours. I know it's really hard and it really sucks but you are doing everything you can to calm him down and he will know that you are there for him even if he still cries. I usually take my son for a walk in the stroller when he gets really bad, and when i get frustrated, it helps sooo much! Remember that it will end! 95% of colic babies are over it by 3 months of age. It will never go past 6 months. Hang in there hun!Johnny Said:
Has any of your children had colic? We Answered:
I was told my son was colic but he never farted like you describe. Though he brought his legs up to his chest a lot and howled lots! Colic generally follows the rule of three: it starts before 3 weeks of age, they cry for at least 3 days per week for at least 3 hours per day. There is a product called Ovol available at drugstores for about $8 that helps relieve colic, bloating, and flatulence due to gas. We found this helped. Basically he grew out of it by about three months, the usual time. In the meantime I avoided foods that made me gassy, like cabbage, broccoli, and onions, cream sauces and rich foods like that (that is if you're breastfeeding). There are a few comfort techniques for baby:-- try having them sleep on an incline wedge...their head is higher (or on your chest in a recliner like we did!)
-- do the bicycle with their legs while they are on their backs
--always burp (though I'm sure you do, my baby rarely burped!)
Basically the symptoms should disappear around 3 months because their gut will be more mature...it's just digestion can be difficult for lots of babies, afterall, they got everything through us before this! Just be patient, I now how difficult it can be to hear your child scream in discomfort and feel powerless...have some help during the day and get some relief...go for a walk with baby if it helps them sleep or by yourself to relax. Lay them down in a safe place and leave the room for a few minutes if you need to. Trust me, it will get better. My son is a very pleasant 7month old and those days of crying lots are behind us :)

Does your child has Acid reflux? If so.. can you help me?We Answered:
Go on the drugs, they are the lesser of the evils believe it or not.My first child had reflux so bad that he did not sleep for 21/2 yrs. My doctor wouldn't believe that it was that bad. My child screamed all the time and would sleep for only a few minutes (20-40) then wake up screaming. By the time my husband demanded a scope of our child, he had precancerous cells in his esophagus like a 40 yr old alcoholic. Meds helped a lot but finally we had to have a Nissan's Fundalophathy at the age of 3. The first night home after his surgery he sleep all night for the first time in his life, my husband actually woke me up screaming at him thinking he was dead because he was so soundly asleep and we were use to him never sleeping.
I recommend that you ask your child's doctor to send him to a Pediatric Gastrologist, and skip all the playing around. There are simple studies (gastric emptying, motility, stomach acid levels) that can help you know if the problem is serious or not. These test don't hurt and take about an hour.

Did your child have long-term affects from colic? Was your colicy baby more sensitive even later on in life?We Answered:
my daughter also had chronic colic for the first 3 months of her life. as far as reaching her milestones she is right on track she is 4 month old and is smiling, rolling over and blows bubbles. she is very sensitive to sounds, if something is loud she reacts unlike everyone else. she is also very sensitive when it comes to her feelings, she has an older brother and if he is playing to rough with her or is loud she will cry and she loves to be held still. there were some days that i couldn't put her down and she got used to it and it has been hard to break her of it. i can see your point of being worried that all the crying may have put her back but i think that they are so happy when they finally get over the colic that they may really enjoy life and really appreciate feeling good. my son never had colic and he isn't as sensitive as my daughter but then again he is boy and she is a girl. i would just enjoy the good moments and simulate her as much as you can when she feels good.Tammy Said:
For anyone with a child with autism...did your child act like this as an infant? We Answered:
Hi. I don't have a child with autism, but I work in a special ed elementary classroom and all of the children are autistic. Generally, you don't see any signs of autism until the child is a little older. As far as your daughter, I wouldn't worry. My son (who is now 8 months old) rarely smiled and hardly EVER laughed. I was a little concerned because other babies were laughing alot and with him it was only every once in a great while. Now he laughs up a storm! It just took him a little longer than usual to do it. I joke that he just didn't find mommy very funny! My son also had horrible stomach problems that were fixed by switching to soy, so Idk, maybe there is some sort of connection. My stepmom has also made TONS of comments about my son never making eye contact with her. He is just VERY curious, always looking around and checking things out. That's actually a sign of intelligence (the curiosity). Has your doctor ever mentioned a possible vision problem? Her eyes may not have completely adjusted yet, that could cause her to not make eye contact. At only 14 weeks, it's WAY too early for her to be "behind." Every baby reaches milestones differently, and your daughter is no exception. I bet that in a few months she's right on target! I would suggest switching pediatricians. As I said, my son did alot of stuff early, but also did some things behind. And now at 8 months, he's completely "normal" lol. On the very tiny chance that your daughter is autistic (which is very uncommon in females), it means a little more work on your part, but other than that she would have an awesome life. She obviously has a great mommy that looks out for her best interest! :-) Best of luck.
