If I had read your question, I definitely would not have reported it because it was a heart warming question, and the folks who report something like this have no heart! Alzheimer's? Nah. It's probably just a bout of short-term memory loss. It happens to me on occasion.

That would work. Because she has only one dominant allele for the Alzheimer's trait, only half of her eggs will contain that allele. Using in vitro fertilization, early blastocyst embryos can be screened to see if they have the nasty allele or not.

Susceptibility allele refers to the fact that genetics are not fate. Just because she has a gene doesn't mean that there's a 100% chance she'll develop alzheimer. It just means there's a higher likelihood she will. In life, 2 things determine your life, environment and genetics. Genetics just predisposes you and your environment (the way you live and the world around you) can increase or decrease that likelihood.

Hi there - so sorry to hear about your mom. In home care is much more expensive than an assisted living or a nursing home. The prices I am familiar with are from 3 years ago in the Los Angeles, California area. The nurses cost between $200.00 and $300.00 a day - and they expect to be paid at the end of a shift on a daily basis.

Medicaid will only pay for a Nurses Assistant a couple of hours a week. Some people have insurance to pay for in home care - other than that it is very expensive to keep a loved home at home who needs 24 hour care, unless another loved one provides the care for free.
