Alzheimer's Disease Cure

How is everyone voting for Embryonic Stem Cell Research? We Answered:
As a person that has had Multiple Sclerosis for the past 13 years, I am definitely voting for Obama. Why? Because the last administration said they were for stem cells, but they were very deceptive and it has caused all government funded medical facilities to slow down on their research because Bush's Ethics Adviser thinks that ALL fertilized eggs should "be disposed of properly" (funerals or cremation).Adult stem cells can NOT be used in the same ways as embryonic stem cells. They might cause you to grow a fingernail out of your kidney, or hair out of your spleen instead of repairing the organ they were trying to fix.
Here's a video that was released a couple of years ago that shows amazing progress being made.....

an irreversible disease, like Alzheimer's can be cured with proper treatment? We Answered:
So far there is no cure. There are meds out to slow the process but do they really work, not sure. My grandmother died from Alzheimer's and had it probably more than 20 years. The last year of her life she didn't know where she was, who her family was, and had to have 24/7 care. It is truly a sad disease. I can only wish for a cure because my dad is now getting signs of early stages. He is only 59.Lance Said:
Can there really be a cure for Alzheimer's, Parkinson disease, Sickle cell anemia, or Cancer? ?We Answered:
No...to date these have not been "cured" at all. However...we do have treatments. The problem with regard to books on the market today that promote such ideologies, is that they target a specific group of readers -- those who believe that modern medicine is a conspiracy, and those who truly WANT to believe in their rubbish -- typically because they have a loved-one that is suffering from a problem they promote resolution for, and because that loved-one has not been "cured" by their affliction.
Virtually ALL of these kinds of books are purely based on unsupportable and radical theories that have NEVER been studied or proved to exist. They hold no water, and they are ONLY published for one purpose -- to make the writer money. They are more akin to science fiction, rather than true science.

How can I avoid getting Alzheimer's disease in the future? We Answered:
See though genetic factor is involved in Alzheimer's disease, you need not panic much about it. The life span has increased very much these days and many are living beyond the age of 80 years but what happens is after 85 or so the functional brain cells count reduces very much that Alzheimer's disease results. The best way to prevent this disease is doing pranayanam ( breathing exercises ) everyday and eating one goose berry a day and taking t tablespoon of honey everyday. Besides keep yourself free from worries and tension and lead a steady , confident and peaceful life . All the nest.Elmer Said:
Is there any cure for alzheimer's?We Answered:
No cure but there are some treatments. Aricept and Namenda are a couple of drugs used to treat alzheimer's. I would suggest making a memory book with your grandmother with pictures (old and new) with people's names and anything else you think is important. I am an occupational therapist and have worked with many alzheimer's patients. Remember, even if she forgets who you are later on, you know that she loves you and that you can continue to show her that you love her.Kristina Said:
Alzheimer's disease is it curable? We Answered:
I'm really sorry for what your father is going through as well as you and your mother. There is unfortunately no cure for alzheimer's disease, a type of dementia though, as the other postee mentioned, medication is available such as aricept that may help to slow the progression of the disease. It's not a panacea or cure-all but it may help patient's daily functioning to a certain degree. It's not uncommon for spouses, children or other caretakers to become emotionally drained and depressed about the situation. Perhaps your father is early enough in the disease to attend adult day care and at least take off some of the burden or pressure from your mom or at least have a home health aide come into the home for a time.
There is a book called "The 36-Hour Day" which is for the family members of someone with Alzheimer's disease, dementia and other types of memory loss. It even comes in large print.
Perhaps there is also a local support group led by the Alzheimer's Association for caregivers to attend: http://www.alz.org and can click on 'In my community' for one's state group and such.
